Camp Miakonda Spring Campout/Crossover

The campout is scheduled for March 23rd – 25th and as of right now, we have two cabins reserved as well as The Fort. All current Cub Scouts will not camp out on the 23rd, but will need to check in by 10:00am on Saturday, March 24th. We need to have all interested families respond and let us know if they plan to attend by March 10th. We won’t know the final cost to each family until we can determine how many scouts will be attending. Please let me know if you need a reservation form and I can email it to you. Return the form to school in an envelope addressed to OLPH Pack 146 or feel free to email me, Cori Whipple, at clw611@sbcglobal.net with your confirmation.

Each den will be required to host an activity for the whole pack. Last year we had arts & crafts activities and outdoor games. Anything you can come up with is always welcome! Drew & I were first timers last year and we had a blast!

For those of you with lots of gear to bring in, Camp Miakonda allows cars into camp between 5:00-6:30pm on Friday. All vehicles are to be out of camp by 6:30pm. Anyone bringing gear after that will be expected to carry their own gear to your site. There are however, carts that can be filled and wheeled to your site as well. I will be posting a "What to Bring" Post for this and all other campouts.

Mud Hens Scout Sleepover

For our rookie scouts, every year the Toledo Mud Hens invite the scouts to attend a game and afterwards, we all get to camp out in the outfield. After all the tents are set up, they show a movie and it is lots of fun!!

After hearing everyone else's opinion, we have decided on Saturday, June 23rd vs. Indianapolis Indians. If we send in one big order, the pack can pay for the handling fee, rather than each family paying for it. I also need to know if everyone would be interested in getting cub scout t-shirts for our boys with our pack number and school name. All the boys could wear the shirts to the game, as well as any other scouting event where they don’t want to wear their uniform.

The deadline for reservations is April 20th and every sleepover has sold out in previous years, so we want to reserve our spots as soon as possible. We are requesting that all reservations be turned in by March 15th, which is the pack meeting. If you want to turn in your order sooner, email me and I will forward you the reservation form to be returned to me, with payment, to the school in a sealed envelope addressed to OLPH Pack 146. Checks can be made out to Pack 146 as well.

Prices for the Game/Sleepover are as follows:

Game tickets: $8.00/person
Sleepover tickets: $7.00/person
Breakfast buffet: $7.50/person

If you have any questions, please call me at 419-389-5859 or on my cell at 419-260-5275

Thanks!

Blue & Gold Banquet

February 17, 2007 - Blue & Gold Banquet

Pack 146 will be hosting our annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Saturday the 17th. If you haven't already made your reservations, please do so as soon as possible. The cost is going to be $8/adult, $4/kids 3-12, and free for children under 3. All reservations need to be in by Tuesday, February 13th so that I can forward a final head count to the caterer. If you are interested in helping to set up for the banquet, please arrive at the school cafeteria on Saturday at 12:00pm. Any questions, call Cori 419-389-5859.

I have come across a really neat skit that I was initially thinking of just having my den perform, but the more that I think about it, it would be really neat to have a few boys from each den perform the skit together. If you think that your son would be interested in being in a skit at the banquet (keep in mind there will be almost 100 people there), please let me know.

Halloween Pack Meeting

October 19, 2006

Once again the boys had a great time at the Halloween Pack Meeting. Each den came ready with a fun activity to share with the rest of the pack. Our Webelos II den scared the neckerchiefs off the rest of the scouts with their "Haunted Kitchen" that was filled with brains, guts and lots of other disgusting things for the boys to get into. The Wolf Den hosted the Costume Relay Race which caused a few of the boys to have on multiple masks and even a skirt or two! It was definitely a hit and everyone had a great time.

The Tiger Cub Den brought lots of goodies to decorate and eat, what would Halloween be without sweets & treats!

Pinewood Derby

January 27, 2007

Pinewood Derby Time! What a day we had, such energy, great designs and SO MUCH FUN!!! Here's Cubmaster Cori getting things ready.

The big Race Day started out with our Bears and since there were only two of them, they both took trophies! Ricky Roesch came in first with the most wins, but Zach Rosebrock wasn’t far behind with his second place win.

The next rank of boys to race was our Wolves, this was their second year for the Derby and they were as excited as ever. The final results of their race ended with John Ross Comes impressing the judges in the design competition and being awarded Best Design, August Dreier finishing in first place, Drew Whipple taking second and Jeff Walter coming in third . The most exciting race of the day came when our Tigers took to the track for their first Pinewood Derby Race. All ten of the first graders were so excited to find out how all the hard work that they put into their cars was going to pay off. Jacob Skomer won for Best Design and Daniel Powers took third place. The first and second place winners ended the initial race in a tie, so they had to determine the winner by racing best two out of three. I don’t know who was more anxious at this point, the boys racing or their parents. In the end, Emmett Krall came in second place, finished just shy of our first place winner Tyler Wittel. Tyler and his dad had a great celebration at the end of the race with mom on the sidelines cheering her heart out. After all of the excitement of the Tigers we had our veteran Webelos I and Webelos II races. A new addition to our pack this year, Tristan Golden, came in and overwhelmed the design judges to win Best Design. Christian Pina took second place and Sean Dooley came in first place in the race competition. The last group of scouts to race for the day was the Webelos II den. Being that this was their final year to be a part of the official race, each and every boy took this one very seriously. Trevor Walsh won the design competition with his Pac Man Ghost car and Matt Dougherty, Jacob Ransom and Justin King placed first, second and third respectively. After these scouts were done racing they wasted no time getting ready to do some judging themselves. As a tradition in our Pinewood Derby, the Webelos II den gets to judge the cars that enter the Adult/Alumni Scout Race. I think that the boys remembered five years of design interviews and tortured each and every contestant. This year there were six contestants in the adult race: Bob Wittel, Bob Sadowy, Cori Whipple, Chris Roth, Andy Jacobs and Kyle Mauter. Much to the dismay of Andy Jacobs and Kyle Mauter (two of our boy scouts), they were disqualified after the race due to the fact that they used cars that were made in previous years by Mr. Jay Mauter and known to be winners. Once that was determined, results were as follows: Bob Sadowy - 1st place, Cori Whipple - 2nd place and Chris Roth took both 3rd place and the award for Best Design. Regardless of the who had the fastest car or the best looking car, I know that all of the boys had a fantastic day and truly had fun, which is what it is all about!

A special thanks goes out to Jay Mauter and the boys in Troop 146 for all of their help to make this a Pinewood Derby that everyone will remember. The whole day was a great success and the cub scouts that took first place, second place and Best Design will advance on to the District Derby which is set to be held on March 10, 2007. Good Luck to you boys!
